Shadows under waterUlla von Brandenburg 울라 폰 브란덴부르크(@ulla_von_brandenburg)의 개인전 《Shadows under water》는 바라캇 컨템포러리(@barakat_contemporary)의 1층과 지하 공간에서 진행된다. 입구로 들어서면 먼저 마주하는 것은 평면 작업들이다. 작가는 시아노타입과 클로린 기법을 활용해 사물과 신체의 실루엣을 남긴다. 그림자는 선명하고, 색은 점차 희미해지며, 형태는 찰나를 붙잡되 방향은 열려 있다. The solo exhibition Shadows under water by Ulla von Brandenburg(@ulla_von_brandenburg) is on view at Barakat Contemporary(@barakat_contemporary), occupying both the ground floor and the basement level. Upon entering, viewers first encounter her series of cyanotype and chlorine-based works. Using these techniques, the artist captures silhouettes of objects and human bodies. The shadows are precise, the colors have faded, the forms captured fleeting moments of flow—yet remain directionally open. Ulla von Brandenburg moves fluidly across video, installation, and works on paper, building immersive environments that blur the lines between reality and the unconscious. In recent years, she has focused on ephemeral elements—water, fabric, shadow—to explore how images are formed, dissolved, and remembered. Rather than fixating on a central subject, she continues to return to the in-between, to what resists being held in place. 셔츠, 리본, 천, 드레스, 통발 같은 오브제가 화면 위에 부유한다. 그리고 몇몇 작업 옆에는 그 사물들이 실물로 함께 놓여 있다. 이미지와 실체가 나란히 있는 방식. 작업을 보는 동시에, 작업의 대상과 마주하게 되는 구조다. 이미지는 무엇을 모사한다기보다, 어떻게 남겨지는지에 더 가깝게 느껴진다. Shirts, ribbons, cloth, dresses, and fish traps float across the surfaces. In some cases, the physical objects appear next to their rendered silhouettes. The image and the thing sit side by side. The viewer faces both the work and what it refers to at once. These are not images that aim to imitate something, but rather to preserve the way something remains. 지하로 내려가면 전시의 분위기가 바뀐다. 천장과 벽, 바닥까지 이어지는 푸른 커튼이 공간을 감싼다. 5채널 영상 <아무도 중간을 그리지 않는다>가 천 위에 겹겹이 투사된다. 영상 속 사물들은 물속으로 천천히 가라앉는다. 구겨진 셔츠, 리본, 그물, 거울, 구슬 같은 것들. Descending into the basement, the atmosphere shifts. Long blue curtains cover the ceiling, walls, and floor, forming a soft architectural structure. A five-channel video, Personne ne peint le milieu (No one paints the middle), is projected across its surface. Everyday objects—crumpled shirts, ribbons, nets, mirrors, beads—sink slowly underwater. 움직임은 느리고, 소리는 없다. 때때로 화면은 깜빡이며 사라지고, 관람자는 그 사이를 걷게 된다. 영상과 공간, 커튼과 그림자가 겹치며 하나의 환경이 만들어진다. 작업이 아니라, 어떤 ‘상태’가 중심에 놓인다. 작가는 중심을 그리지 않는다. 대신 흐릿하고 고정되지 않은 지점을 오래 응시한다. The movement is slow, the sound absent. At times, the screen flickers into blackness. The viewer moves through these moments, passing between projection and fabric, shadow and environment. What’s presented is not an object, but a state. The artist refuses the center, choosing instead to linger in what remains unfixed. 전체 전시는 차분하고 분명하다. 설명은 없지만 구조는 명확하고, 감각은 뚜렷하다. 사라지는 것들에 대한 전시. 혹은, 사라지는 것을 다시 떠올리게 만드는 방식에 대한 전시. The exhibition is quiet and precise. Without direct explanation, its structure is clear and its sensations distinct.
